Security Officer (7:00 pm - 7:00 am)Chatham BHCC - Savannah, GA 31406OverviewPosition Type: Full Time Job Shift: Overnight Education Level: High School / GEDDescriptionJob Summary:Under general supervision, the Security Officer provides security, safety, and support services within the Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC). This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for consumers, visitors, staff, and property. The Security Officer assists during voluntary and involuntary admissions, supports crisis response efforts, monitors visitors and facility access, conducts safety inspections and patrols, documents incidents, and collaborates with clinical and operational staff to ensure effective daily operations.Essential Functions:Patrols assigned areas to detect, prevent, and report safety concerns, security risks, and criminal activity.Responds appropriately to emergencies, crises, and security incidents.Provides security support during voluntary admissions, involuntary admissions, and crisis evaluations.Ensures the safety and security of consumers, visitors, contractors, and employees.Accompanies staff during consumer transportation activities when operationally appropriate.Monitors visitation activities to ensure safety and compliance with facility rules.Conducts room searches and safety inspections when authorized.Performs regular building, campus, and perimeter patrols.Inspects facilities for unsecured doors, windows, hazardous objects, safety concerns, and property damage.Assists with investigations involving incidents occurring within the facility.Operates and inspects vehicles used in the performance of assigned duties.Prepares and submits incident reports and related documentation.Maintains accurate daily logs, records, and operational reports.Monitors weather conditions and coordinates appropriate safety measures.Assists nursing, clinical, CPS, CCS, and administrative staff with operational activities.Serves as backup support for designated positions as needed.Participates in required training, drills, and professional development activities.Conducts fire drills and fire extinguisher inspections as assigned.Maintains a customer-focused approach while interacting with consumers, visitors, staff, and community members.Promotes respect, cooperation, professionalism, and teamwork throughout the organization.Maintains compliance with agency policies, procedures, safety standards, and security requirements.Maintains a valid Georgia driver's license.Transportation / Operational Expectations:Assists with transportation duties only when operational needs and staffing levels permit.Does not transport consumers outside the local service area unless specifically approved by the Milieu Director or Program Manager.Remains readily available within the BHCC to support walk-in consumers, emergency admissions, involuntary commitments, and crisis response activities.Provides support for daily facility operations including safety monitoring, consumer movement, de-escalation support, and operational coverage.Complies with assigned operational responsibilities and directives related to security and unit support.Works collaboratively with nursing leadership, CPS staff, CCS staff, and administration to maintain compliance, safety, and operational efficiency.CCS / Security Support:May assist the Crisis Care Specialist department as needed to support operational effectiveness, staffing coverage, and workflow efficiency.Required Knowledge & Skills:Knowledge of law enforcement, security, and emergency response principles.Knowledge of DBHDD provider service guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements.Knowledge of behavioral health, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed approaches.Knowledge of agency safety and security procedures.Knowledge of facility emergency preparedness procedures.Knowledge of incident documentation and reporting practices.Proficiency with PC-based software applications and standard office equipment.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.Ability to remain solution-focused during stressful situations.Ability to monitoring within the BHCC.Conducts patrols, inspections, and facility security checks.Responds to emergencies, incidents, and crisis situations.Assists with consumer admissions, transportation, and visitation monitoring.Maintains logs, reports, and incident documentation.Supports nursing and clinical staff as needed.Participates in drills, training, and emergency preparedness activities.Promotes security principles and procedures.Prior experience as a security officer, correctional officer, law enforcement officer, military police officer, or similar role preferred.Minimum three (3) years of experience in a hospital, behavioral health, emergency services, security, or correctional setting preferred.Valid Georgia driver's license.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.Upon appointment to the position, the employee assumes responsibility for meeting and maintaining all minimum qualification requirements, including applicable certifications, licenses, continuing education, competency validations, and mandatory annual or recurrent training. The role routinely uses computers, telephones, security equipment, monitoring systems, printers, and other office equipment.
