Medical Assistant II - Neurology

Baylor College of Medicine's Neurology Team is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant II to join our Parkinson's and Movement Disorder group. As a Medical Assistant II, you will perform patient care and administrative/support responsibilities in an ambulatory setting. This position will help support Injection procedures and authorization. We are looking for a team player who is eager to join a fast-paced group of providers.

Job Duties:

• Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
• Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
• Manages in-basket messages.
• Manages and coordinates incoming patient referrals.
• Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork.
• Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
• Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
• Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs.
• Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
• Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
• Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician.
• Administers medication under direction / order of a supervising Physician.
• Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
• Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
• Two years of relevant experience.
• Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Some knowledge or experience in a general neurology or Parkinson's.
