Join SEARHC in Sitka, Alaskaan integrated tribal healthcare system offering comprehensive, patient-centered care in one of the most scenic coastal communities in the country. We are seeking an Internal Medicine Physician (MD/DO) to provide full-scope outpatient primary care in a collaborative, team-based clinic co-located within the new and modern critical access hospital. This is a unique opportunity to practice broad-spectrum internal medicine with strong support, advanced technology, and a lifestyle-driven schedule.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation salary: $269,259 - $299,177 based on years of experience, with additional productivity bonus based on wRVUs, and quality incentives.

Schedule and Work-Life Balance:

  • Workweek: MondayFriday, 8:00 a.m.5:00 p.m., with telemedicine included and four hours of administrative time with no call requirement.
  • Generous Time Off: 33 days (264 hours) annually, including holidays, and 10 days of CME.

Practice Details:

  • Clinic facilities: 16 exam spaces with one procedure room. One medical assistant per physician, primary care nurse case manager, nurse triage, diabetic nurse educator, and nutritionist. Ancillary services include CT, Ultrasound, X?ray, pharmacy, laboratory services, and MRI.
  • Patient Volume: Up to 18 patients per day in clinic. EMR and tools include Meditech, Dragon Dictation, and DAX AI assisted documentation.
  • Procedure opportunities: Treadmill tests, Arthrocentesis, colposcopy, IND, Nexplanon, biopsies, toenail removal, joint injections, and OMT welcomed.

Additional Care Opportunities:

  • Occasional long-term care and home visits.
  • Optional involvement in rural outreach or consultative support.
  • Potential for hospital-based support or consults as needed.
  • Close collaboration with onsite and visiting specialists (e.g., surgery, orthopedics, ENT).

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO with completion of accredited Internal Medicine residency.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible.
  • Active Alaska license or ability to obtain.
  • BLS required and ACLS encouraged.
  • New graduates welcome.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job:

  • Provides the highest quality evidence-based comprehensive medical care to SEARHC patients with special emphasis toward chronic illness in adult and elderly populations.
  • Provides guidance, consultation, and advice to other SEARHC medical staff including Advanced Practice Clinicians throughout the health system, and, when necessary, provides supervision and practice plan oversight.
  • Actively leads and manages a panel of internal medicine patients commensurate to the Physicians FTE status and in coordination with the integrated care team.
  • Documents all patient services in the medical record per medical staff rules and regulations.
  • Participates in SEARHC quality and performance improvement programs.
  • Provides medical education and teaching to visiting medical students and resident physicians.
  • Participates in ongoing medical education to maintain licensure and board certification.
  • Provides medical services at facilities within the SEARHC care network and other facilities and locations listed in SEARHC's compact and funding agreement with the Indian Health Service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Well versed in the principles and practices of internal medicine
  • Exhibits caring and respectful behavior while interacting with patients, families, staff, and colleagues.
  • Supports SEARHC standards of care, The Joint Commission, EMTALA, HIPAA, health care risk management principles, and medical ethics.
  • Provides high quality health care services including the performance of medical procedures appropriate to the setting.
  • Provides clinical leadership, promotes teamwork and collaboration, provides clinical guidance as requested for Advanced Practice Clinicians, and resolves conflict.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize the electronic medical record and other clinically required technology.
  • Express ideas clearly through oral and written communication skills, analyze complex situations efficiently and problem solve, and effectively implement clinical program strategies.
  • Communicates in an open, respectful, helpful, supportive, and collaborative manner with staff and patients.
  • Is sensitive and responsive to culture, race, age, gender, and disabilities of patients and staff.
  • Exhibits caring and respectful behavior while interacting with patients, families, staff, and colleagues.
  • Minor and major surgical skills that the physician has received adequate training in and remained proficient at that skill.
