Lead Histology TechnologistThe Histology Lead works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director to provide oversight of the histology department. The Lead is responsible for evaluating a caregiver's performance and ensuring that staff are competent. Works with the Laboratory director and Pathologists to determine goals of the department. Performs microtomy stains and monitors documentation complies statistical data for management. Reviews QC CAP surveys and department QA's. Evaluates new stains, trains new caregivers, writes procedure and ensures CAP compliance. Rotates call as needed. Gives excellent customer service.Responsibilities:Resource person for laboratory staff, physician, nurses, office personal and internal/external customers.Is responsible for investigating and resolving any issues/concerns that are identified. Keeps department CAP compliant.Recognizes instrument issues, malfunction and takes appropriate action.Trains/orients new hires, evaluating their performance and competency.Participates in evaluation of new stains.Writes and maintains policies and procedures to keep current for the department.Prepare and maintain the quality of Histology and cytology stains and reagents.Inventory order and stock supplies and clean pathology grossing areas, frozen section rooms, histology area and maintain all equipment.Embed section, make slides, stain, coverslip and label tissues for examination by the pathologists. Perform special stains as directed by the pathologists.Take telephone calls and prepare specimens for send out. Perform computer operations necessary to enter patient information, order tests and charge for procedures.Maintain files of tissue blocks and slides.Other duties as assigned.Education:H.S.
