Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU provides specialized nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients in a high-acuity intensive care environment. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while collaborating with physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care to critically ill cardiac and post-operative cardiovascular patients.
• Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, ventilators, and other critical care equipment.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and titratable drips per physician orders and hospital protocols.
• Assess and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and emergency situations.
• Assist with invasive procedures and post-surgical recovery management.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge instructions.
• Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety, and quality assurance standards.
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and continuing education activities.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in applicable state/jurisdiction.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum 1–2 years of critical care or ICU nursing experience preferred.
• Experience in CVICU, Cardiac ICU, or Cardiovascular Stepdown preferred.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient assessment skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CCRN certification preferred.
• Experience with open-heart recovery, ECMO, Impella, CRRT, or advanced cardiac monitoring.
• BSN preferred for Magnet-designated facilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift patients/equipment as needed.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays as required.
• Capability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, high-acuity intensive care setting.
• Exposure to infectious diseases and emergency situations.
• Requires adherence to strict confidentiality and safety standards.
