Requirements:
Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

Incumbent will have financial disclosure reporting responsibility in accordance with Section 112.3145, Florida Statutes.
Office hours will be set between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.
The supervisor will work with the employee to select a schedule within office hours that works best for the employee and the position. This position will occasionally require work time outside of regular scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends.
This position requires the ability to travel up to 25%.

Education, Experience, and Certification:
- Graduation from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school;
- Active member of The Florida Bar, in good standing;
- At least seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
Overview:
The Legal Office provides a wide range of legal services to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and staff. The Commission’s mission and topic areas are broad and include hunting and fishing rulemaking and enforcement, endangered and threatened species protection, public land management, captive wildlife regulation, recreational and commercial permitting, procurement, grants, human resources, and litigation related to any of these areas.
The employee’s responsibilities will directly support and effect the State of Florida. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s mission is to manage fish and wildlife resources for their long-term well-being and the benefit of people. The head of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is the Commission, comprised of seven commissioners, appointed by the governor and subject to confirmation by the Senate. The commission has the authority to exercise the executive and regulatory powers delegated to FWC through Article IV, Section 9 of the Florida Constitution as well as additional powers and duties as provided by the Florida Legislature.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Commission’s Office of General Counsel is hiring an experienced administrative law attorney to operate as the agency’s informal hearing officer. The hearing officer will hear cases, primarily licensing actions related to fishing, hunting, or captive wildlife. The employee in this position will perform the following legal activities for the Commission:
- Conduct informal administrative hearings, pursuant to Chapter 120, F.S. and the Commission’s Due Process rule.
- Issue non-final and final orders on notices, scheduling, and procedural matters for such hearings.
- Review motions, reports, recommendations, and proposed recommended orders submitted by attorneys and pro-se petitioners and consider related law, and the information presented at hearings, to make case determinations, generally in the form of a recommended order to the Executive Director.
- Draft final orders for consideration by the Executive Director related to informal hearings and formal DOAH hearings. -Review and draft proposed changes to Commission rules related to administrative procedure, and other subjects as requested by the General Counsel.
- Perform all duties in a professional and respectful manner.
- Additional administrative and legal duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Administrative law knowledge in a variety of forums to include Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH) and the District Courts of Appeal
- Ability to obtain and interpret legal research
- Ability to communicate effectively both internally and with stakeholders and their representatives
- Strong writing and legal drafting skills, able to draft orders, documents, memos, etc. with limited errors.
- Ability to comfortably use standard office software including Microsoft Word with track changes, Adobe Pro including electronic signature, Microsoft Outlook, and electronic case management systems
- Time management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Florida laws and legal procedure
- Environmental or Wildlife law knowledge preferred
- Florida state government experience preferred
