Systems Engineering Lead

Senior Software Engineer / Technical Lead

MASV is a dynamic and innovative company committed to making file transfers fast, easy, and secure. We prioritize innovation, reliability, and user-centric design in our products. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer / Technical Lead to own and lead the development of the MASV Agent, our cross-platform, high-speed file transfer service, and to guide a growing engineering team as we take it further.

About the Role: This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll set direction and plan major initiatives, break work down and then stay hands-on by tackling the most challenging, highest-leverage technical work yourself. The role has no direct reports by default; if you'd like to grow into people management as the team expands, we'll support that.

MASV Agent solves a genuinely hard problem: move huge volumes of data reliably, over networks and machines we don't control, without ever dropping a byte or a user's trust. You'll spend your time on global-scale, high-throughput and resumable transfers, fast cross-platform filesystem watching, rock-solid unattended operation, and flexible ways to express what to move, where, and how.

What You'll Do:

• Lead development of the MASV Agent: Drive the design, implementation, and continuous optimization of our core client-side agent for high-speed, reliable file transfers across macOS, Windows, and Linux.
• Drive system architecture: Lead technical discussions and architecture decisions for client-side applications, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and clean recovery from crashes, restarts, and unreliable networks.
• Architect SDKs and developer experience: Help define and build well-documented SDKs that let other developers integrate MASV's transfer infrastructure into their own workflows, with clear API surfaces that are easy to adopt.
• Plan and lead initiatives: Shape the approach for major projects, break work into deliverables, distribute and work within the team while owing the outcome.
• Optimize system performance: Troubleshoot complex, system-level issues across network I/O, filesystem operations, cross-platform behavior, and concurrency.
• Design for human and agentic workflows: Ensure every capability ships cleanly through the CLI and local REST API, with machine-readable output and clear error semantics. Anticipate AI agents as first-class consumers and help define MCP-based interfaces where they improve discovery, orchestration, and tool use.
• Ensure compliance & security: Maintain the highest security standards for all client-side tools, adhering to SOC2, ISO27001, and TPN standards.
• Mentorship: Coach and provide technical guidance, lead code reviews to elevate the engineering practices of the team.
• Own and coordinate deployments: Take responsibility for planning and executing deployments, organizing release activities across the team, clarifying ownership and timelines, and ensuring smooth, reliable rollouts.
• Partner with Support to improve customer issues: Work closely with the Support team to troubleshoot recurring and complex customer issues, catalog and map the problems customers face, identify root causes and patterns, and coordinate improvements that make the product more reliable and easier to use.

What we're looking for:

• Proven experience: 10+ years Senior-level experience as a Systems or Software Engineer, with a strong focus on client-side applications, distributed systems, networked services, or developer tooling, including having owned a significant system and set its technical direction.
• System-level knowledge: Solid understanding of OS internals, filesystems, concurrency, and core networking protocols (UDP, TCP, TLS, with a real focus on correctness under failure.
• API / CLI / SDK design: Demonstrated experience designing, versioning, and supporting APIs, CLI tools, or developer-facing SDKs for both human and programmatic consumers. Familiarity with agentic AI workflows, tool-calling patterns, MCP, or similarly structured machine-to-machine interfaces is valuable.
• Technical leadership: A track record of setting direction and bringing others along.
• Problem-solving: Excellent analytical skills and the ability to debug cross-platform issues independently in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Communication: Clear written communication for a remote, asynchronous team.

Nice to Have:

• 10+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Golang experience. Comfort with goroutines, channels, memory management, and cross-compilation is strong plus.
• Experience with high-performance data transfer, concurrency, and reliability in networked or I/O-heavy systems.
• Experience with unattended / agent software running on customer infrastructure.
• Filesystem event watching, resumable/chunked transfer protocols, or backpressure at scale.
• Experience with cross-platform build tools, packaging, and CI/CD for client binaries (Windows, macOS, Linux).
• Experience building and maintaining SDKs in multiple languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/Node.js, Rust), or cloud storage integrations.
• Experience designing tools for AI agents, including MCP servers, structured tool schemas, deterministic machine-readable output, authentication and automation.
• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Why MASV?

• A competitive base salary of $140K-$190K CAD per/year, dependent on applicant qualifications
• Comprehensive health benefits
• 6 weeks of flexible paid time off
• A monthly work-from-home stipend (we're a fully remote org)
• A $3,000 professional development budget annually
• Full autonomy to grow, learn, and carve out your career path
• Work-life harmony (we appreciate hustle but also a good night's rest)
