Principal AWS Modernization Architect

Salary: $166,400 - 208,000 per year Requirements:

• We require 12+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, and architecture.
• We need substantial background leading complex application and cloud modernization efforts.
• We require deep AWS architecture expertise along with strong hands-on engineering capability.
• We need a solid software engineering foundation with significant Python development experience.
• We require experience designing and delivering distributed, scalable, highly available production systems.
• We need experience modernizing legacy applications and architectures.
• We prefer experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React and/or Angular.
• We need working knowledge of C#/.NET and legacy desktop application patterns.
• We require strong experience with APIs, microservices, integrations, and event-driven design.
• We need Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, AWS CDK, and/or CloudFormation.
• We require strong CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, monitoring, and observability experience.
• We need the ability to create architecture that can be implemented in practice, not just conceptually.
• We require the ability to prototype and engineer critical components directly when needed.
• We need experience mentoring and guiding other senior engineers.
• We require strong written and verbal communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to customer, contractual, and project requirements.
• Experience with AWS IoT Core, IoT architecture, device management, OTA updates, edge computing, containers, Kubernetes, Linux, Android, cellular/LTE, generative AI, LLMs, RAG, mission-critical systems, public safety, or defense/aerospace is highly valued.

• We will have you lead a deep technical assessment of our existing AWS and application environment.
• We will expect you to review source code, services, integrations, infrastructure, and deployment workflows.
• We will have you identify technical debt, architectural constraints, reliability gaps, and modernization opportunities.
• We will rely on you to define the future-state cloud, software, and device-management architecture.
• We will have you develop a phased technical modernization roadmap.
• We will expect you to personally design, prototype, code, and build critical solution components.
• We will have you develop production-ready software using Python and modern engineering practices.
• We will rely on you to design APIs, services, integrations, and cloud-native application components.
• We will have you help modernize legacy C#/.NET/WPF functionality into modern cloud and web architectures.
• We will expect you to work with React and/or Angular where applicable.
• We will have you architect and implement AWS services for large-scale device management.
• We will rely on you to evaluate AWS IoT and related technologies for communication, configuration, telemetry, and software distribution.
• We will expect you to design event-driven, distributed, and highly available systems when appropriate.
• We will have you implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, and/or CloudFormation.
• We will expect you to improve CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and observability.
• We will have you build prototypes and proofs of concept to validate design decisions.
• We will expect you to participate in code reviews and help establish engineering standards and patterns.
• We will rely on you to mentor other engineers and provide technical direction.
• We will have you collaborate directly with engineering leadership and stakeholders to turn strategy into working software.

This is a remote role based in the United States and combines an initial three-month architecture and modernization phase with strong potential for follow-on work. We offer a flexible schedule, competitive hourly pay of $80.00 to $100.00, and the opportunity to work directly with engineering leadership on sophisticated modernization challenges.
