Cytotechnologist

Job Overview Position: Cytotechnologist at MercyOne Central Iowa. This full‑time role is scheduled Monday‑Friday day shift, with no holidays or weekends. The position involves evaluating cell samples, performing routine and special diagnostic procedures, preparing cytological slides, troubleshooting equipment, monitoring caseloads, following quality control measures, teaching new employees, and applying LEAN productivity principles. Responsibilities Perform routine and special diagnostic procedures related to cancer detection using principles of cytology to produce reliable results. Prepare cytological slides on specimens including pap smears, body fluids, BAL, brushings, washings, fine needle aspirations, cyst fluids, CSF, and urine; examine and diagnose both non‑gynecologic and gynecologic slides for infectious, pre‑malignant, and malignant disease processes using automated and manual screening methods. Troubleshoot equipment failures and resolve technical issues. Monitor and resolve all outstanding cytology cases to maintain efficient turnaround time. Follow established quality control measures and procedures. Show commitment to providing quality service to all laboratory clients, internal and external. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of laboratory computer systems used in cytology. Train new employees. Utilize LEAN principles and productivity standards. Schedule Full Time Monday‑Friday Day Shift (No holidays or weekends) General Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a science‑related field. Successful completion of an accredited cytotechnology program. Certification as a Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP) required. Eligibility to register for the certification exam, with the exam completed within six months of hire. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and multi‑tasking skills required. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory standards preferred.
