HVAC Controls Systems Engineer

MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced HVAC Controls Systems Engineer in Sioux Falls, SD. Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Systems Engineer to support a large, multi-building construction project in Sioux Falls, SD. This position will provide hands-on field support for building automation and HVAC control systems while coordinating engineering activities, subcontractors, technicians, and project stakeholders.

The role is approximately 50% field troubleshooting and commissioning and 50% engineering coordination and follow-up. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field, troubleshooting controls and network issues, and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, test, commission, and support HVAC/building automation control systems.

Perform field investigations and identify controls, electrical, communication, and system-related issues.

Assist with system startup, commissioning, functional testing, and project closeout activities.

Coordinate with subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, engineers, and other project stakeholders.

Review project requirements and follow up on outstanding engineering and field issues.

Support controls installation and ensure systems are installed and operating according to project requirements.

Communicate technical issues, findings, and recommendations clearly to customers and project teams.

Use electrical test equipment, including a volt meter/multimeter, for troubleshooting and verification.

Assist with documentation, system updates, testing records, and project follow-up.

Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.

Required Qualifications

Technical associate degree with relevant field experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hands-on experience with HVAC controls, building automation systems, industrial controls, or related systems.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Experience using a volt meter/multimeter for electrical troubleshooting.

Ability to work independently in a field environment.

Strong communication and coordination skills.

Experience working with subcontractors, technicians, installers, engineers, or other project stakeholders.

Strong computer skills.

Ability to work onsite five days per week.

Reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally as required.

Technical Skills

Experience or working knowledge of the following is preferred:

BACnet/IP

BACnet MS/TP

Modbus

TCP/IP networking

Building Automation Systems (BAS)

HVAC control systems

Controls commissioning and startup

Electrical troubleshooting

BAS programming and system configuration

Experience with Metasys or other major BAS platforms is a plus.

Preferred Experience

HVAC controls or building automation experience.

Field commissioning and troubleshooting experience.

Controls engineering or systems integration experience.

Experience coordinating subcontractors and project activities.

Experience supporting large commercial, industrial, institutional, or multi-building projects.

Project management or engineering coordination experience.

Work Environment

Fully onsite in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Monday Friday schedule.

Field-oriented role requiring regular interaction with contractors, technicians, and project stakeholders.

Reliable transportation is required.

Employment is contingent upon completion of applicable background screening and driving record verification.
