Sarasota County Government is seeking a skilled technician to join the Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) team. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on medium and heavy-duty diesel fixed route buses and gas powered support vehicles.

Job responsibilities include:

• Performing journeyman level repair work on transit buses at the master technician level.
• Providing training to technicians, trainees, and other maintenance employees as required.
• Repairing diesel, gasoline, or electric vehicles including all major and minor hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical or power train systems and components.
• Performing A, B, and C preventative maintenance inspections and repairs defects as noted.
• Diagnosing complex computerized control systems utilizing OEM and aftermarket diagnostic equipment.
• Generating electronic work orders and entering data and notation relevant to repairs performed.
• Interacting with bus operators to resolve maintenance related issues with vehicles.
• Exhibiting a positive attitude, consistently trying to improve maintenance processes, and providing management with solutions to problems that arise in daily operation.

Minimum qualifications include:

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade school certification may be considered.
• Five years of experience in the automotive/heavy equipment/transit repair industry.
• Completed/maintains a minimum of 1 Master ASE Heavy certification required. (Transit Bus or Medium/Heavy Truck) Other technical school or manufacturer's certifications will be reviewed to determine if equitable to equal ASE Master Certifications.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Certification in basic welding.
• Valid Florida Class A CDL.

The maintenance team schedule is Monday through Friday with two 8-hour shifts morning and afternoon, with shift start times selected by seniority. Overtime may be needed on weekends, depending on workload and rotates through the team.

Pay: $18.48/hour
