Managing Director

Reporting to the Chief Programs Officer (CPO), the Prince George’s County Managing Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all LAYC/MMYC programs in Prince George’s County. This proactive, solutions-oriented leader is responsible for ensuring high-quality services and strong outcomes for youth and families through effective program management, budget oversight, data collection, reporting, and staff supervision. The Managing Director is an independent and collaborative leader who drives operational excellence, addresses challenges with innovative solutions, fosters strong community partnerships, and leads teams to achieve organizational goals while advancing LAYC/MMYC’s mission and impact across the county.

Latin American Youth Center’s (LAYC) mission is to empower youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through comprehensive and innovative programs that address youths’ social, academic, and career needs. To achieve this mission, LAYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 4,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behavior, and guide youth towards successful adulthood.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide strategic leadership for all Prince George’s County programs, ensuring alignment with LAYC/MMYC’s mission, vision, and organizational goals.
• Lead, mentor, and develop managers and staff , fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
• Drive program excellence and innovation by identifying emerging needs, improving existing services, and supporting new program development.
• Represent and advocate for LAYC/MMYC with community partners, coalitions, government officials, and other stakeholders to advance youth-focused initiatives and policy change.
• Partner with grants and data teams to secure funding, ensure grant compliance, monitor outcomes, and leverage data for continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.
• Oversee budget management and fiscal accountability , ensuring effective resource allocation, compliance with funder requirements, and accurate reporting.
• Build and maintain strong external relationships with funders, government agencies, community organizations, and key stakeholders.
• Champion data-driven decision-making , using program performance metrics to assess impact, improve outcomes, and guide program growth or realignment.
• Promote staff development and organizational culture through coaching, performance management, professional development, and positive youth development practices.
• Serve as a proactive, solution-oriented leader who independently addresses challenges, drives results, and ensures high-quality outcomes for youth and families.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• B.A. degree
• Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in a nonprofit management role;
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Proactive, solutions-oriented, and independent leader with outstanding management skills and the ability to influence, motivate, and engage both direct and indirect reports, as well as peers.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, families, funders, and public agencies.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to think strategically and drive results.
• Proven leadership and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage timelines, and execute initiatives effectively with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of community resources and services that support youth and families.
• Ability to lead teams in a dynamic environment while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Flexible, energetic, and positive professional with a strong commitment to youth development and creating high-quality, respectful environments.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Ability to successfully complete required criminal background and child abuse/neglect clearances.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. Will require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
