Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Labor and Delivery, Part Time, Nights

Job Summary This position must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to our patients, the public, and our co‑workers. It is accountable for providing patient care responsibilities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Perform reassessments related to delegated interventions, not to include initial shift assessments. Notify the supervising RN of any change in patient condition during delegated interventions at the time the change is noted. Provide reinforcement to education given to the patient, family, and/or significant other, including discharge instructions. Initial patient education is not within scope. Administer medications as approved per MWHC policy and provide treatment interventions within the scope of practice defined for an LPN as delegated by the supervising RN. Document data collected, medications administered, and nursing care provided. Collaborate with the RN in implementation, evaluation, and modification of the patient care plan based on collected data. Collaborate with the health‑care team to coordinate services and contribute to continuous performance‑improvement processes. Maintain an up‑to‑date competency notebook. Participate in educational programs and clinical experiences to further enhance nursing practice. Interact effectively with patients and families to ensure quality care. Follow unit policies and procedures, and support the hospital and department missions, goals, and objectives. Maintain ongoing requirements for education and licensure. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications LPN license in the State of Virginia. AHA BLS Provider CPR required. Two years of nursing experience preferred. Must meet the physical qualifications of the job. For LPNs working at Snowden at Fredericksburg, a CPI is required within 90 days of hire. Physical Requirements Constant (67–100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands; frequent (34–66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. Ability to lift 35lb.; push and pull 20lb. Auditory and visual skills, including color determination; ability to work in confined spaces and to reach above/overhead. Mental Requirements Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Can multi‑task. Communicates effectively and collaborates with a multi‑disciplinary team. Can cope with difficult situations. Tolerates irregular hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Environmental Requirements & Exposure Hazards Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Clinical positions in Mary Washington Home Health and/or Hospice must meet driving requirements.
