Job Responsibilities

The role at the law firm is a detail-oriented Paralegal to support attorneys in trademark and copyright matters. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgment, is detail-oriented, communicates professionally, and takes ownership of responsibilities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. The primary responsibilities include:

• Assist with trademark searches/clearances and preparation of memoranda and reports advising clients of risk assessment of proposed marks.

• Prepare trademark and copyright applications, maintenance filings, renewals, extension requests, specimen, and portfolio management.

• Monitor and track trademark deadlines and USPTO correspondence.

• Prepare and maintain trademark and copyright records and databases.

• Coordinate with clients regarding trademark prosecution and maintenance activities.

• Assist with cease-and-desist matters, enforcement efforts, and intellectual property litigation support.

• Assist with filings in the USPTO.

• Communicate regularly with clients regarding the status of their trademarks and provide updates.

• Light legal research and online research to identify instances of infringement.

• Prepare watch reports and memoranda on new and potentially infringing marks.

Education and Experience Information:

• An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies or a related area is preferred with at least 2 to 4 years of paralegal experience in a similar job or a Paralegal Certificate with 5+ years experience.

• Experience supporting intellectual property, trademark, media, or commercial litigation practices.

• Familiarity with USPTO procedures and trademark portfolio management.

• Familiarity with the Copyright Office procedures and copyright portfolio management.

• Demonstrated experience as a trademark or other IP paralegal, with a proven record managing USPTO filings, docketing, and client communications;

• Working knowledge of USPTO procedures and U.S. trademark legal terminology;

• Proficiency with the USPTO Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS) for preparing and filing trademark applications and maintenance documents;

• Proficiency in utilizing the Electronic System for Trademark Trials and Appeals (ESTTA) for TTAB filings;

• Familiarity with TTABVUE for researching and monitoring TTAB proceedings and case status;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

• Professional demeanor and strong client service orientation.

• Experience in NextPoint or Filevine a plus.

• Paralegal Certificate.

Salary

Competitive salary is commensurate with experience. (Pay type is hourly.)
