Pediatric Occupational Therapist

Occupational TherapistGillette Children's is seeking a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Occupational Therapist to join the Gillette Children's Rehabilitation Therapies team at our Maple Grove location. Monday to Friday day shifts performing outpatient care with the occasional weekend required to cover inpatient services at our St. Paul hospital location.Provides direct and indirect family centered therapy services for patients to increase functional abilities, independence and community integration. Contributes to department, program and service teams to assure achievement of desired outcomes.Core Responsibilities and Duties:Completes an evaluation utilizing principles of family-centered care.Designs assessment consistent with goals of evaluation, provider order, patient / family input and priorities.Obtains necessary history and background information.Selects evaluation methods, tools, and environment to obtain valid and reliable assessment specific to the patient's age and developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, cognitive and behavioral status.Administers evaluation consistent with best practices and Gillette competencies.Interprets evaluation for to the patient / family and seeks their assessment of the evaluation's reliability and validity.Makes recommendations for treatment, referrals, equipment, resources and home and community based activities.Documents and bills for evaluationImplements a therapy care plan utilizing principles of family-centered care.Designs and implements a therapy care plan including frequency, intensity, duration, and modalities.Coordinates with related services and home and community based resources and referrals and in the context of the patient and family's needs, preferences and priorities.Identifies desired functional outcomes of the episode of care and goals for initial care plan recertification.Monitors progress toward goals and objectives. Identifies need for modification of goals or intervention program and appropriate discontinuation of intervention.Periodically completes evaluation and assessment to determine if amount and rate of progress is appropriate.Designs home programs that facilitate goal attainment and generalization of new skills to home and community.Prepares the patient and family for discharge from therapy and indications for follow-up therapy care.Completes necessary administrative and procedural tasks in a timely manner.Completes timely and complete documentation to assure effective communication of the plan to the ordering provider, the patient/family, and payers and to assure continuity of care (Same day documentation – 80%).Completes safety, incident, time-keeping, and customer service documentation same day.Uses time productively in direct and indirect patient care, department contributions and assisting team members as needed.Qualifications:Required:PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE/REGISTRATIONOccupational Therapy State License.Pending credentials: Registration and Licensure pending, not to exceed three months in this status for OT.Current certification in CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association) or must obtain certification within 90-days of hire.Preferred:NBCOT strongly preferred for Occupational TherapistsPediatric experience strongly preferredKnowledge, skills, abilities:Competency in occupational therapy evaluation, treatment and related family/community education and planning for transition to community services.Knowledge of child growth and development, rehabilitation theory and practice with a wide variety of childhood onset diagnoses and related considerations including anatomy and neurology, emotional behavior factors, family needs and issues, community transition and equipment.Effective verbal and written communicationAbility to function as an effective team memberExcellent customer service skillsGillette Children's is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of an individual's race, color, creed, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, marital status, familial status, genetic information, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation or gender identity, military status or any other class protected by federal, state or local laws.
