Job Title: Cleaner / Janitor / Custodian (Contract – 5 Months)

Job Description

This contract Cleaner / Janitor / Custodian role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and presentable facility within a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will primarily support floor care and general custodial duties, including operating industrial floor scrubbers and other cleaning equipment, performing daily cleaning tasks, and assisting with basic building maintenance. The position runs for approximately 5 months (21 weeks), working Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning of the building, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and maintaining restrooms in a clean and sanitary condition.

• Collect, remove, and properly dispose of garbage and recycling from designated areas throughout the facility.

• Stock and restock restrooms, breakrooms, and other areas with necessary supplies, and unpack and receive cleaning and maintenance supplies as needed.

• Maintain the cleanliness of warehouse floors, ensuring they remain safe, presentable, and free of debris at all times.

• Operate floor scrubbers, buffers, and other industrial cleaning equipment safely and efficiently to perform floor care, including scrubbing, buffing, and waxing.

• Tend to grounds and entryways near the property entrances to keep them clean, clear, and welcoming.

• Assist with trash pickups in and around the facility, including larger debris and scheduled waste removal tasks.

• Support internal office moves and relocations, including tearing down and building office cubicles and assisting with furniture or equipment moves.

• Perform general building maintenance tasks as needed, including building start-up routines, minor electrical work, minor plumbing tasks, replacement of lights, and general building clean-up.

• Support interior and exterior recycling efforts, ensuring proper sorting, handling, and placement of recyclable materials.

• Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of floor care and cleaning equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

• Identify, address, or promptly report spills, hazards, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.

• Follow all safety, quality, and facility procedures consistently, including wet-floor procedures and workplace safety practices.

• Complete assigned cleaning routes and tasks within scheduled timeframes while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.

• Work both independently and as part of a team, communicating effectively with coworkers and supervisors to support efficient building operations.

Essential Skills

• General experience with industrial cleaning equipment, including safe operation of floor scrubbers, buffers, and other floor care machinery.

• Ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on cleaning and floor care equipment.

• Knowledge of proper cleaning chemicals, including correct dilution procedures and safe handling practices.

• Understanding of basic manual work techniques and general labor tasks related to janitorial and custodial work.

• Ability to lift 50 to 100 pounds to handle equipment, supplies, and materials safely.

• Attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining high cleanliness and safety standards.

• Time management skills and the ability to complete assigned tasks and routes independently within scheduled timeframes.

• Ability to identify and report maintenance issues and safety hazards promptly and accurately.

• Basic troubleshooting skills for routine maintenance and minor issues with floor care equipment.

• Understanding of workplace safety practices, including wet-floor procedures and safe operation of equipment in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.

• Strong work ethic, reliability, and good attendance record.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with colleagues and support building operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

• 0–2 years of related experience in janitorial, housekeeping, custodial, or industrial cleaning roles.

• Experience in floor care, including floor cleaning, buffing, waxing, and operating floor scrubbers and buffers.

• Experience in janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and general custodial tasks.

• Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment is beneficial.

• Familiarity with interior and exterior recycling practices within a facility setting.

• Positive attitude and willingness to support a variety of cleaning and light maintenance tasks as needed.

Work Environment

This position is based in a high-volume manufacturing center that operates in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. You will work Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., focusing on maintaining clean and safe facility floors and work areas. The role involves regular physical labor, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting 50 to 100 pounds. You will frequently operate industrial floor scrubbers, buffers, and other cleaning equipment, and work around machinery and warehouse operations. The facility environment requires consistent adherence to safety procedures, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals, use of wet-floor precautions, and awareness of equipment and foot traffic. Attire typically aligns with a manufacturing and custodial setting, where practical, comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear suitable for physical work and safety are expected.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
