Respiratory Therapist IIUnder the direction of department management, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care and assigned patient care areas. The Respiratory Therapist II administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures. This role includes managing respiratory dysfunction and requires skills such as aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and arterial punctures. Responsibilities also involve the management of all aspects of airway care, including tracheostomy care and endotracheal intubations. The Respiratory Therapist II may transport pediatric and neonatal patients according to established protocols. Additional responsibilities may include performing advanced procedures such as intravenous insertion, chest tube insertion, and blood glucose monitoring as needed. The position requires the ability to work on-call and manage multiple patient needs effectively. Maintains and improves job knowledge and skills, functions independently with minimal supervision, and serves as a resource to other staff. Must have recent experience with oscillatory ventilation techniques. Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures is essential. Effective communication with patients, families, and medical staff is crucial.
