Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.Job SummaryThe Frankel Cardiovascular Center Quality & Safety Program is hiring a Cardiovascular Abstractor to support cardiovascular quality and safety efforts across the inpatient and ambulatory domains. As a Cardiovascular Clinical Abstractor, you will be responsible for comprehensive patient-level data collection, validation, analysis, and interpretation. Our Clinical Abstractors collaborate directly with our clinical partners to ensure comprehensive and accurate representation of clinical risk and patient outcomes. You will also partner with the corresponding Quality Specialist to ensure complete, accurate, and timely data submission and to develop and distribute standard and ad hoc reports. We strive to ensure that our abstractors are cross trained to no more than two clinically distinct registries and/or programs at any given time. Clinical registry responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: NCDR Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Registry The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)/American College of Cardiology (ACC) Transcatheter Valve Therapies (TVT) Registry NCDR CathPCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) Registry BMC2 PCI Registry Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) Registry BMC2 Vascular Registry Other programs and/or registries as assigned This position reports to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center Quality & Safety Program Manager. This position may be eligible for remote and/or flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment. Responsibilities*75%: Clinical abstractionPerform timely and accurate chart level abstraction. Validate case data utilizing relevant expertise and clinical judgment. Clarify documentation with clinical faculty and staff as needed.Capable of understanding, interpreting, and applying complex data definitions or specifications manuals to data abstraction. Capable of explaining nuances to clinicians and administrators.Develop and maintain expertise in selected registry inclusion/exclusion criteria, definitions, and FAQs. May attend regional and national registry and/or quality conferences to this end.20%: Continuous improvementParticipate in efforts to improve data accuracy and quality; participate in external audits and internal registry inter-rater reliability processes. Synthesize and analyze large quantities of information to create succinct communications that inform and influence decision-making; develop, prepare, maintain and distribute reports. Review and analyze registry data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement; partner with the corresponding Registry Site Manager and/or CQI Site Coordinator to recommend and/or support implementation of quality improvement activities. 5%: Other duties as assignedRequired Qualifications*Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in science in a healthcare or related field. Able to reliably attend virtual meetings. Relevant clinical experience in direct patient care or healthcare research. Experience with clinical data collection and/or reporting; specifically, analyzing or interpreting processes, clinical outcomes, and costs of careExperience working with diverse teams and multiple stakeholders; demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Exceptional organization and attention to detail; able to consistently meet deadlines in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple competing tasks and priorities. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and free from immediate direction within the scope of responsibility and a team-focused framework. Experience navigating electronic medical record software, databases and/or clinical registry software; proficiency with Microsoft software applications. Some overnight travel for registry-related meetings and conferences. SENIOR Level Required Qualifications: At least 5 years of experience with clinical data collection and/or reporting; specifically, analyzing or interpreting processes, clinical outcomes, and/or costs of care.Experience with Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles, quality improvement initiatives and/or project management. INTERMEDIATE Level Required Qualifications: At least 3 years of experience with clinical data collection and/or reporting; specifically, analyzing or interpreting processes, clinical outcomes, and/or costs of care. Exposure to Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles, quality improvement initiatives and/or project management. Desired Qualifications*Clinical direct patient care experience in a cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology laboratory, or inpatient or ambulatory cardiovascular medicine or vascular surgery unit.
