Shipper

Overview & Responsibilities

To receive incoming or outgoing materials, preserve, pack and load material and equipment for shipment.

Tools including, but not limited to:

Hand tools, scales, rulers, hammers, pry bars, wire cutters, hand truck, telephone, radio, calipers, electrical/pneumatic power tools, strapping machines, saws, brushes, squares, rollers, pinch bars, paint, ink, heating gun, plates, foam packing, jib hoist, pendant control crane, overhead crane, spreader bars, heavy rigging, fork truck, scissor lift and computer.

Responsibilities

• Observes all plant safety rules and procedures.
  
• Receives instructions from supervision.
  
• Loads and unloads material inside and outside from trucks, wagons, railroad cars, identifies and checks material with transportation bill.
  
• Prepares material for storage and shipping. Includes cleaning, applying proper coatings and protection compounds as required by shipping specifications.
  
• Determines type and size of container or skid to be used from measurements taken, makes sketches, considers product damageability and whether material is for domestic or foreign shipment and length of storage requirements.
  
• Selects or constructs proper container or skid using proper blocking and packing material. Seals container weighs and records weight on container.
  
• Affixes proper general order number and loads container into shipping vehicle using proper shipping methods and procedures.
  
• Operates jib hoist, pendant control cranes, overhead cranes, riding fork truck, and scissor lift.
  
• Performs physical count, identifies parts by shop order and grouping for final packaging method and crate design.
  
• Maintains good housekeeping by placing tools, equipment and material in the proper place.
  
• Obtains lumber and supplies as necessary and works anywhere in the plant as assigned by supervision.
  
• Seal peel and tectyl coats parts as required.
  
• Operates foam machine and various forms of packing as required.
  
• Performs coating and preservation on parts as required by customer and shipping specifications.
  
• Ensures that appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet is shipped with orders of liquids, powders and pastes ("x" parts) as specified by Safety Department.
  
• Applies protective cover to finished units as required.
  
• Design and build heavy skids and lids for all Elliott Group products
  
• Set up, direct and operate cranes for heavy and critical lifts.
  
• Assemble/disassemble heavy haul trucks
  
• Report defective material, equipment and safety issues/concerns to supervisor.
  
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
  
• Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am-3pm), 2nd (3pm-11pm), and 3rd (11pm-7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to realignment.
  
• Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
