SUMMARY :

The Off-Season Ropes Challenge Course Lead Facilitator is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of ropes challenge course and programs. This position provides leadership and mentorship to Facilitators and Facilitators-in-Training while ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience for all participants. The Lead Facilitator serves as a role model in program delivery, risk management, and participant development.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Follow all applicable standards, regulations, and guidelines established by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), the American Camp Association (ACA), and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).
• Facilitate games, initiatives, team-building activities, and ropes challenge course experiences for participants of varying ages and abilities.
• Instruct participants on ropes challenge course elements, equipment use, and established safety procedures.
• Develop and implement progressive ropes challenge course experiences that support participant growth, confidence, teamwork, and leadership.
• Provide participants with appropriate and attainable challenges while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Serve as a leader and role model by promoting and maintaining a strong culture of safety.
• Promptly report accidents, incidents, equipment concerns, and safety hazards to the Ropes Challenge Course Manager.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Ropes Challenge Course Facilitators and Facilitators-in-Training during program operations.
• Assist with onboarding, training, coaching, and skill development of facilitation staff.
• Conduct and document inspections of ropes challenge course elements, equipment, and program areas to ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper working condition prior to use.
• Ensure the proper use, care, storage, maintenance, and documentation of all ropes challenge course equipment.
• Maintain accurate records in the Ropes Challenge Course Equipment Log and other required program documentation.
• Attend and actively participate in all required trainings, certifications, and refresher courses, including a minimum of one facilitator refresher training annually. MUST be trained on both ropes challenge courses (Piperwood & Seven Hills) in order to facilitate a program on a designated course. 
• Demonstrate proficiency in ropes challenge course facilitation, rescue procedures, emergency response protocols, and risk management practices.
• Complete evaluations, timesheets, incident reports, and other required administrative documentation in a timely manner.
• Participate in staff assessments and advancement processes for Facilitators and Facilitators-in-Training.
• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, and staff.
• Support and actively promote the mission, values, and goals of Girl Scouts of Western New York.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to the mission, policies, and practices of Girl Scouts of Western New York.
• Demonstrated mastery of skills identified in the Challenge Course Lead Facilitator assessment and evaluation process.
• Minimum of 120 documented challenge course program hours, including:

60 hours as a Facilitator-in-Training, and

60 hours as a Challenge Course Facilitator, and

Must be trained in rescue procedures

or equivalent documented challenge course experience approved by the Ropes Challenge Course Manager/Sr. Director of Outdoor Program

• Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and supervise staff and volunteers in an outdoor recreation environment.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively instruct and supervise youth and adults.
• Current certification in RTE and CPR Pro, or willingness to obtain certification during designated training opportunities.
• Demonstrated proficiency in ropes challenge course rescue procedures and emergency response techniques.
• Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and effectively manage multiple responsibilities.
• Physical stamina and good health necessary to safely perform challenge course facilitation duties.
• Availability to work weekends and scheduled program dates.
• Minimum age of 18 years.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
• Possess the physical strength, endurance, mobility, and balance necessary to safely facilitate challenge course activities.
• Maintain constant awareness and supervision of participants and staff.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and effective decision-making in dynamic environments.
• Exhibit enthusiasm, patience, flexibility, self-control, and a positive attitude.
• Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to the diverse needs of participants.
• Participate in both structured and unstructured program activities.
• Effectively communicate and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Provide professional leadership and exceptional customer service.
• Uphold and implement the mission, goals, and values of Girl Scouts of Western New York.

PAY RATE:
$140/Half Day - $190/Full Day

 

GIRL SCOUT MEMBERSHIP:

All Employees of Girl Scouts must maintain an active, annual membership in Girl Scouts of Western New York. This membership must be renewed annually, and all newly hired employees are expected to enroll with GSWNY within the first 30 days of their employment .

EXEMPTION:

Girl Scouts of Western New York seasonal camp and camp-related positions are subject to the Federal and New York State exemption laws under Section 13(a)(3) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Seasonal staff working at camp may be paid in accordance with this exemption. Seasonal employees are not eligible for company-sponsored group benefits.
