The Aging Research Program Manager serves as the operational lead for the Aging Research Program, providing strategic, financial, regulatory, and administrative oversight for a diverse portfolio of federally and privately funded research studies focused on aging, Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and related neurological conditions. Job Description

The Aging Research Program Manager serves as the operational lead for the Aging Research Program, providing strategic, financial, regulatory, and administrative oversight for a diverse portfolio of federally and privately funded research studies focused on aging, Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and related neurological conditions. The Program Manager partners closely with the Program Director and collaborating investigators to advance research priorities and ensure the successful execution of program goals.

This position oversees all aspects of research operations, including study implementation, personnel management, grant administration, regulatory compliance, financial oversight, participant recruitment and retention, data management, and community engagement activities. The Program Manager supervises research staff, facilitates strategic planning, supports grant development and post-award management, and serves as a key liaison among principal investigators, early stage investigators, and staff .

Job Duties

  • 30% - Leadership and Operations: Provides strategic and operational oversight for a portfolio of aging research studies, directing activities from study startup through closeout. Leads program planning, process improvement, and resource coordination to ensure efficient operations, regulatory compliance, participant safety, and achievement of scientific and organizational goals. Serves as a key liaison among principal investigators, early-stage investigators, and staff to facilitate effective communication and coordination across the Aging Research Program while addressing operational challenges and advancing program priorities.
  • 25% - Project Management - Provides oversight of study databases, project timelines, and program performance metrics. Establishes systems for tracking enrollment, retention, compliance, and study progress while ensuring data integrity and adherence to regulatory standards. Collaborates with investigators and institutional stakeholders to prepare reports, monitor study performance, and support data-driven decision-making. Applies project management principles to coordinate resources, timelines, and deliverables across a complex portfolio of research initiatives.
  • 20% - Personnel Management and Supervision - Oversees staffing and personnel operations across the Aging Research Program, including workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development. Supervises lead coordinators while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing work environment. Provides mentorship, guidance, and performance support to team members and ensures appropriate allocation of personnel resources to meet study objectives and program priorities.
  • 15% - Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance - Leads the regulatory and compliance infrastructure for the Aging Research Program by overseeing institutional review board submissions, protocol amendments, continuing reviews, study audits, safety reporting, and sponsor communications. Responsible for submission of complex protocols for IRB submissions.  Ensures compliance with federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice standards, sponsor requirements, and institutional policies. Maintains quality management systems, regulatory records, and study documentation while directing internal monitoring activities and preparing research teams for audits, monitoring visits, and Data and Safety Monitoring Board reviews.
  • 10% - Grants and Financial Support - Partners with principal investigators and research administration to support the full grant lifecycle from proposal development through award closeout. Assists with the preparation and submission of grant applications, including budget development, budget justifications, and supporting documentation. Acts as a liaison between the research group and research administration to facilitate budget monitoring, purchasing and invoice approvals, contracts, and material transfer agreements (MTA). Ensures responsible stewardship of research funds and alignment with programmatic goals.

 

Preferred Experience and Additional Skills: A master’s degree, three years of relevant program experience, and clinical research certification (e.g. SOCRA, ACRP) strongly preferred. Experience in Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease human subjects research with execution of federal grants is strongly preferred. Must have experience working with older adults with and without cognitive impairment. A background in project management is essential for this position. Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the area of employment, specifically the assigned federal grants, as well as state and MUSC requirements. Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to make decisions independently using sound judgment; operate under minimal supervision; and be a self-motivated and flexible individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities. Must have the ability to coordinate diverse administrative management functions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; plan, organize, and supervise the work of subordinate personnel; and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people. Must have working knowledge of Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet search tools.
