Surgical Technologists, sometimes called “scrub techs”,assistin surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and registered nurses. In this position, you will helpensure quality patient care during the operative procedurebymaintaininga sterile field. Surgery would not be possiblewithout the support of caregivers like you.Aside from offering unmatched patient care, you will alsoreceive resources to learn and grow and comprehensive benefits that invest in your health and overall well-being. A caregiver in this position worksfrom 7:00am to 5:30pm. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of an RN. Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available. Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery. Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients. Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure. Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.” Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Completion of aSurgicalTechnologyProgram accredited through the CAAHEP or ABHES OR completion of aMilitarySurgicalTechnologyProgram OR certification as a Surgical Technologist (acceptable certifications for this route are TS-C (through the National Center for Competency Training) or CST (through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or the American Red Cross Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
