Medical Records Specialist

Job Summary As a Medical Records Specialist, you will assist the HIM Director by routinely performing duties in support of the management of the Horizon Patient Folder (HPF)/McKesson Patient Folder (MPF) workflow queues, working applicable worklists within 3M 360 Encompass, resolving unbilled accounts, and processing physician suspensions. When the HIM Director and/or HIM Coordinator is unavailable, you will serve as the primary point of contact. Responsibilities Retrieve discharged medical records from various departments and reconcile them to ensure that all records are accounted for. Facilitate the retrieval and printing of medical records from storage, and perform storage, archival and record‑retention of documents and/or other alternate media that cannot be scanned into HPF/MPF (e.g., fetal monitor strips). Assist with the physician suspension process by evaluating whether a physician should be put on suspension, creating the recommended suspension list, sending notice letters, making reminder calls, etc. Prepare medical records and loose documents for scanning. Scan and index medical record documents. Interact with parents to collect and document birth information, deliver the appropriate forms to them, and provide guidance in completing the forms. Qualifications High school diploma or GED (preferred). Hospital or medical office experience (preferred, but not required). Previous experience in handling patient health information, medical records, document imaging, and/or medical records preferred. Completion of a state certification program may be required; training and course fees will be provided.
