Director of Operations – Industrial Mechanical Construction (Oil & Gas & Chemical) – Houston, TX

Gryphon Oakwood are currently partnered with a leading industrial mechanical contractor in Texas, who are looking to appoint a Director of Operations to lead their heavy industrial construction operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience delivering large-scale mechanical construction projects within the oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, and industrial manufacturing sectors, with a proven track record of driving operational excellence, profitability, safety, and project execution.

Reporting directly to executive leadership, this individual will provide strategic oversight across multiple projects and business units, ensuring successful delivery of complex construction programs while leading project management, field operations, construction teams, and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and direction for all operational activities across heavy industrial mechanical construction projects.
• Oversee project execution, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
• Lead and mentor Operations Managers, Project Directors, Project Managers, and field leadership teams.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
• Maintain strong relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
• Drive business growth by supporting estimating, preconstruction, and business development efforts.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and company requirements.
• Monitor project performance, financial metrics, resource planning, and risk management initiatives.

Requirements:

• 15+ years of experience within industrial mechanical construction.
• Significant experience delivering projects in the oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, refinery, or industrial manufacturing sectors.
• Previous leadership experience as a Director of Operations, Operations Manager, General Manager, Regional Manager, or similar senior operational role.
• Strong understanding of piping, structural, mechanical, turnaround, maintenance, and capital project execution.
• Proven ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and operational teams simultaneously.
• Strong commercial, financial, and contractual acumen.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
