HVAC Technician

Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair District's Heating, Venting, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC)

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred A minimum of two years experience in the HVAC field Possess a Refrigerant Recovery License Class "C" Texas Driver's License

Special Knowledge/Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills Must demonstrate general knowledge of heating-ventilating-air conditioning systems Must demonstrate general knowledge and skill in construction and mechanical trades Ability to accurately interpret plans, shop drawings, and specifications

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintain, service, and repairs heating-ventilating-air conditioning (HVAC) systems in the district.
• Complete work orders; record work performed, materials used, and man-hours expended.
• Exercise due care and safety in the use of assigned tools and equipment.
• Exercise due care and safety in the use of assigned district vehicles.
• Make responsive decisions in the purchase of HVAC parts and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
• Replace or assist in the replacement of HVAC equipment, as required.
• Maintain and repair refrigeration equipment, water fountains, ventilation hoods, and ice machines.
• Wear required safety equipment and protective clothing.
• Is available on short notice for emergency or overtime work.
• Replace air handler motors, chill water pumps and motors.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director.

Equipment Used: HVAC testing equipment, Oxygen Acetylene torches, Vacuum pumps, reclaimer machine, Multi-meters, Amp probes, Common hand and power tools.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively Ability to read and understand directions as required, to perform assigned duties and abide by maintenance and safety procedures The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot numerous kinds and types of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, and ice machines

Physical Demands/Environment Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as tools, supplies and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 150 lbs such as compressors, ice machines, window units, and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and ladders.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors and will occasionally work indoors. Exposure to severe weather conditions. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays while performing the duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee frequently works in and around energized electrical components.

Other: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of manual trades personnel.
