Chief of Surgical Oncology

the client is seeking a Chief to lead a Division of Surgical Oncology and provide overall leadership, supervision, and accountability for the division’s educational, research, clinical, and administrative missions within the Department of Surgery and its associated cancer institute. the Chief will develop a clear vision and strategic direction for the division, prioritizing departmental and institute values and supporting excellence and advancement for faculty, trainees, students, and advanced practice providers. the Chief will also serve as Surgeon-in-Chief for the client’s regional cancer program. the Chief will provide operational responsibility for surgical oncology across the client’s cancer program, with local accountability to the Chair of the Department of Surgery and to institute leadership. the role will include building and sustaining a multidisciplinary and multi-professional culture of quality and responsiveness, and supporting collaboration through influence, negotiation, and motivation of partners. the Chief is expected to demonstrate strong clinical commitment, with dedication to patient care, research, and leadership at local and national levels, as well as strong commitment to education across residents, fellows, medical students, and advanced practice providers. Candidates should be recognized academic clinician-researchers at the Associate or Professor level, with demonstrated leadership and management experience in complex multidisciplinary environments. the department supporting this role includes substantial clinical and translational research capacity, multiple surgical subspecialty divisions, and ongoing residency and fellowship programs in areas such as surgical oncology, breast surgical oncology, hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, advanced GI surgery, bariatric and metabolic surgery, surgical critical care, acute care surgery, and robotic HPB surgery. the division operates within an established research ecosystem supported by major extramural funding and dedicated analytical and clinical trials resources, and it also has endowed financial support for division priorities.
