Director of Safety

Role Summary

The Safety Director is responsible for leading, developing, and enforcing the safety strategy for Building Blocks Facades across both manufacturing operations (Merritt Island facility) and field construction sites nationwide.

This role ensures a zero-incident safety culture by driving proactive risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Building Blocks’ principles of speed, intensity, and world-class execution.

The Safety Director will spend approximately 50% of their time traveling to active job sites , working directly with field teams, subcontractors, and project leadership to ensure safety standards are consistently applied and upheld.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety Strategy & Leadership

• Develop and lead the company-wide health & safety program across manufacturing and field operations
• Establish safety policies, procedures, and standards aligned with:
• OSHA regulations
• Construction and manufacturing best practices
• Promote a culture of personal ownership, accountability, and proactive hazard identification
• Serve as the company’s senior safety leader , modeling expectations and driving behavioral change

2. Field Safety Oversight (Construction Sites – 50% Travel)

• Conduct regular site visits to active projects to: Audit safety compliance, Observe work practices, Identify and correct hazards in real time
• Partner with: Project Managers, Superintendents, Subcontractors,
• Ensure enforcement of: Fall protection, Rigging and lifting practices, Scaffold safety, Equipment usage
• Lead site-specific safety planning and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)

3. Manufacturing Safety (Merritt Island Facility)

• Oversee safety programs within: Carpentry, Mold shop, GFRC/UHPC production, Steel fabrication and material handling
• Ensure safe practices for: Heavy equipment operation, Chemical handling (resins, cementitious materials), Dust/silica exposure control
• Conduct routine safety audits and inspections

4. Compliance, Audits & Reporting

• Ensure full compliance with: OSHA standards, Federal, state, and local safety regulations
• Maintain: OSHA logs (300/300A/301). Incident reports and investigation documentation
• Lead internal and external safety audits
• Track and report key safety metrics: TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate), Near misses, Lost Time Incidents

5. Incident Management & Root Cause Analysis

• Lead investigation of: Incidents, Near misses, Safety violations
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
• Ensure rapid response and communication of lessons learned
• Develop preventive strategies to eliminate recurrence

6. Training & Workforce Development

• Develop and deliver safety training programs, including: OSHA 10/30 requirements, Site-specific safety training, Equipment and process safety
• Ensure onboarding safety orientation for all new hires
• Coach supervisors and managers on safety leadership and accountability

7. Subcontractor & Vendor Safety Management

• Evaluate subcontractor safety programs and performance
• Ensure all subcontractors comply with Building Blocks safety standards
• Participate in pre-construction safety planning
• Support vendor qualification and safety reviews

8. Continuous Improvement & Risk Mitigation

• Identify trends and implement preventative safety initiatives
• Drive improvements in: Site safety planning, Hazard mitigation processes, Safety communication, Integrate safety into operational planning and decision-making

Qualifications

Required Experience

• 8+ years of safety leadership experience in:
• Construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments
• Proven experience managing safety across:
• Field construction sites
• Production/manufacturing facilities
• Working knowledge of:
• OSHA regulations (construction + general industry)
• Demonstrated success reducing incidents and improving safety culture

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 30-hour certification (required or ability to obtain quickly)
• OSHA 500 (Outreach Trainer Certification) strongly preferred
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST certification preferred

Experience in:

• Façade systems
• Precast, GFRC, UHPC, or concrete construction
• Experience managing multi-state or multi-site safety programs
• Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred

Travel Requirement
