RN First Assistant (RNFA)

Job Summary

The RN First Assistant (RNFA) is a highly trained Registered Nurse who collaborates with surgeons and the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective surgical operations. This role requires specialized knowledge, skills, and judgment specific to operating room practices and the RNFA role.

Job Duties

• Work collaboratively with surgeons and the healthcare team during surgical procedures to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Practice perioperative nursing with a comprehensive understanding of operating room protocols.
• Assume the responsibilities of circulating and scrubbing when not engaged in the RNFA role.
• Adhere to safety standards and protocols during all perioperative phases.

Qualifications

• Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program.
• CNOR certification required.
• Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting; Level 1 trauma experience is preferred.
• Experience with robotic surgeries, including but not limited to:
  
  
  • Robotic Urology
  • Robotic Gynecology
  • Robotic Colorectal Surgery
  • Robotic Surgical Oncology (e.g., Whipples, gastrectomies, hernias)
  • Robotic Thoracic Surgery
  • Robotic General Surgery (e.g., gallbladders, appendectomies)

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
• CNOR certification required.

Work Schedule

This position requires weekday day shifts with no weekend or holiday responsibilities, although evening call may be required based on unit needs.
