In addition, Music Teachers are expected to:

• Teach general music education classes to scholars in grades 5 and 6 during the school day, and may also have the option to support with beginner band 1-2 times weekly after school.
• Create and implement engaging lessons, incorporating a balance of music literacy, vocal development, instrumental instruction, movement, and composition for daily general music classes.
• Align lessons with national and state music standards.
• Work independently and collaboratively with school based and district wide teams to help build upon our expanding music program and curriculum.
• Organize and host annual performances and/or concerts to showcase scholars' work throughout the year.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree is required with certification in music education or the ability to be emergency certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education
• A minimum of two years teaching experience in a diverse public school setting preferred, but not required
• Proficiency in vocal performance or a musical instrument, and experience with leading both choral and instrumental programs is strongly preferred.
• Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required
• Successful applicants must hold an appropriate Rhode Island teacher certification by their date of hire. Rhode Island offers reciprocity with over 30 states across the country.
