Pastor/Director of Stewardship

The Pastor/Director of Stewardship at The Compass Church champions a culture of biblical stewardship throughout the church family, emphasizing generosity as an expression of discipleship rather than fundraising. This role may be performed either by a pastor with a passion for stewardship or a Christian development professional who can approach giving from a distinctly biblical perspective. The successful candidate will be either an experienced pastor with demonstrated impact in stewardship or a development professional, such as a major gift officer, with strong relational and organizational fundraising experience. AFP membership is desired and CFRE certification is preferred. Responsibilities include providing leadership in stewardship strategy, donor care and engagement with key financial partners, supporting leadership with giving insights and reporting and helping guide initiatives such as capital campaigns, planned giving and potential endowment development. The role also involves equipping staff and volunteers to communicate effectively about generosity and ensuring clear, effective giving systems and processes. This position may be structured as either full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate’s experience, skills and availability. For full-time candidates, the anticipated salary range is $50,000–$80,000 annually. The ideal candidate has experience in church or nonprofit development, strong relational and communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with high-capacity donors and organizational leadership. Additional expectations include participation in staff meetings and church life, affirmation of The Compass Church’s Statement of Faith and EFCA alignment and active involvement in the life of the church community. About this Church Since its founding in 1952, The Compass Church has been dedicated to biblical teaching, discipleship and outreach. A member of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), The Compass Church is a multi-campus church serving Chicagoland with six locations: Naperville, Wheaton, Bolingbrook, South Naperville, Plainfield and Hinsdale. Additionally, CompassOnline and Compass Español provide digital and Spanish-language ministry options. Our story is one of growth, faith and responsiveness to God’s calling. It began as Wheaton Evangelical Free Church in 1952 and soon planted a congregation in Naperville in 1957. Over the decades, the church experienced significant expansion, moving locations multiple times to accommodate growth. The transition to a multi-site model began in 2010, enabling The Compass Church to extend its reach throughout the western suburbs of Chicago.
