Assistant Financial Controller

Compensation: $100K - $125K DOE + Outstanding bonus based on Corporate profit annually Outstanding Benefit package with Health benefits 100% employer paid RemX is proud to represent our prestigious client in the civil construction industry who is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support and strengthen their accounting and financial operations. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role will play a critical part in overseeing the accounting function, managing financial reporting, supporting operational decision-making, and ensuring accurate job costing across multiple projects. Responsibilities Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting adherence to established accounting policies and procedures Lead and manage month/year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP Oversee all job costing functions ensuring costs are accurately captured, allocated and reported Review project budgets, committed costs, change orders, labor allocation, equipment utilization, subcontractor costs and overall project profitability Partner with project managers and operations leadership to monitor project financial performance and provide cost analysis and forecasting Analyze job cost reports and investigate cost variances, identifying risks and opportunities for improved project profitability Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities Support audits and serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors, lenders, and tax professionals Manage fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and construction-related accounting functions Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and enhance financial visibility across projects Support financial system enhancements and reporting initiatives Requirements Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within commercial demolition, excavation, construction, heavy civil, industrial services, or other project-based industries with transferable experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls Hands-on experience with job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, project accounting and project profitability analysis required Demonstrated ability to analyze project budgets, estimate-to-complete reporting, cost-to-complete projections and cost variance analysis Dedicated work ethic, ability to work effectively in fast paced settings with multi-shifting priorities Partner with project managers and operations leaders to improve project financial performance Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments Proficiency with ERP systems such as Computer East, Deltek or similar preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr RemX | The Workforce Experts
