POSITION TITLE

Speech / Language Pathologist

DESCRIPTION

The job of Speech Language Pathologist is established for the purpose of identifying students with communication disabilities, providing screening, identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, intervention, and follow‑up services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assesses students’ communication skills to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop treatment recommendations. Collaborates with various groups and individuals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines. Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students, presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans, and providing training to parents, students, and staff. Designs interventions and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements. Instructs assigned support staff on communicative disorders, assistive device use, feeding techniques, and implementation of prescribed treatment plans. Instructs eligible students in using appropriate communication technologies to minimize adverse educational impact, following established guidelines and legal requirements. Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech‑Language Pathologist experience and goals to ensure appropriate treatment/intervention plans. Maintains files and records to ensure availability of required information for reference or compliance. Researches resources and methods to determine appropriate approaches for addressing students’ needs. Responds to inquiries, providing information and/or referral as appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
