Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer to support the design, development, validation, implementation, and continuous improvement of packaging systems within a highly regulated manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong packaging engineering experience along with exposure to quality systems, validation, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems.
- Evaluate packaging materials, components, and configurations to ensure product protection and performance.
- Support new product introductions, product transfers, packaging changes, and process improvements.
- Develop packaging specifications, drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Develop and execute packaging validation protocols, including IQ, OQ, and PQ.
- Support packaging and process validation activities in compliance with applicable FDA, GMP, and ISO requirements.
- Participate in risk assessments, FMEAs, design reviews, and change-control activities.
- Provide engineering support to manufacturing and packaging operations.
- Investigate packaging-related quality issues and support CAPA, nonconformance, and root-cause investigations.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, material optimization, waste reduction, and process improvement.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to improve packaging performance and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Procurement, and external suppliers.
- Support audits, inspections, and other quality and compliance activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of engineering experience in packaging, manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutical, or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience with packaging design, development, testing, and/or validation.
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations and quality systems.
- Knowledge of packaging materials, packaging technologies, and packaging equipment.
- Familiarity with FDA/GMP requirements and regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with FMEA, root-cause analysis, CAPA, and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work onsite in a manufacturing/cleanroom environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medical device packaging and ISO 11607.
- Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ validation methodologies.
- Experience with Minitab or similar statistical software.
- Experience with CAD software such as ArtiosCAD or AutoCAD.
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems.
- Lean or Six Sigma experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills. Alfredo
