At Hy-Vee, we believe the shortest distance between two people is a smile. We're seeking people with a passion for customer service, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to being part of a team that strives to make our customers' lives easier, healthier and happier.

The Role and Why It's Important

The Pharmacy Department Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the pharmacy department, driving prescription count, patient count, and profitability while delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a strong professional image in the community. If you are a licensed pharmacist with strong leadership skills, a passion for patient care, and the drive to build a thriving pharmacy, we'd love to have you on our team.

  • Conduct regularly scheduled inventories, check pharmacy security procedures, and perform mini audits

  • Oversee training of pharmacy staff on the designated pharmacy point of sale system and assist in resolving questions and problems

  • Review pharmacy department policies, procedures, and inventory to ensure compliance with federal and state pharmacy regulations including DEA and Board of Pharmacy requirements

  • Monitor compliance through regular audits and verify that proper records including controlled substance records are maintained and readily available

  • Prepare and submit required records and reports for the company and governmental or regulatory authorities as authorized

  • Recommend and audit inventory levels based on prescription volume, monitor the designated inventory system, and review daily purchases

  • Resolve customer complaints regarding service, pricing, personnel, and all aspects of pharmacy operations

  • Build growth and sales through counseling customers on OTC medications and products

  • Represent the company through membership and active participation in pharmaceutical professional groups and organizations

  • Oversee nursing home accounts and delivery of medications

  • Maintain the confidentiality of customers' private medical information in accordance with HIPAA

  • Adhere to all Hy-Vee policies, store guidelines, and all statutes and regulations pertaining to pharmacy management

  • Report to work when scheduled and work the expected number of hours

Your Skills

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, especially in healthcare settings

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of pharmacy computer applications including PIS, order management, automated dispensing, CPOE, IV compounders, packagers, bar code applications, and supply chain solutions

  • Lead and develop a team through strong supervisory, coaching, and problem-solving skills
