Multi-Lingual Learner Program (MLP) Specialist (Teacher)

Location(s): New Prospect Elementary

School Year: 2026-2027

Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• Valid South Carolina teaching certificate ESOL certificate or endorsement
• Minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or supervisory experiences
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
• Highly developed interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of current educational research and best practices in English for Speakers of Other Languages
• Demonstrated proficiency using technology
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports To: Executive Director of Assessment & Accountability

Job Goal: To provide a structured program of language arts designed to assist ML students in attaining high levels of English proficiency, to provide assistance in content subjects, and to assist ML students in the psychological-social adjustment to school life.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Conducts a well-planned and effective instructional program for ML students.
• Communicates the culture of ML students to classroom teachers to promote a better understanding of the culture of the ML students.
• Identifies, screens, and assesses ML students.
• Assesses the progress of ML students.
• Consults classroom teachers on a regular basis to coordinate the instructional program for ML students.
• Confers with parents, students, principals, counselors, and other personnel to assist ML students in the adjustment to Anderson District Five schools.
• Maintains necessary records.
• Monitors the learning experiences of ML students.
• Communicates and provides leadership for implementing best practices in the ML program.
• Uses data to make instructional decisions related to the ML program.
• Assists in the improvement of instruction within the ML program.
• Works cooperatively with the school and district staff in the continuous improvement of student achievement within the ML program.
• Provides leadership toward achieving school and district accountability and strategic goals.
• Works cooperatively with district leadership to ensure continuity of all instructional programs.
• Provides leadership and serves on committees as assigned.
• Assists in planning programs of professional development.
• Conducts professional development according to program need.
• Participates in professional development programs.
• Maintains proficiency in technology
• Provides guidance to administrators and teachers in the selection and use of educational materials.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Terms of Employment: 190 days (if employed for full contract calendar). Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Executive Director of Assessment & Accountability.
