Director - Critical Care

Job Description To provide expert, competent, credible, visible leadership service to advocate for area of responsibility; support shared decision-making; and allocate resources to support staff. The Director of Critical Care assumes leadership responsibility for divisions clinical and administrative departments assigned. The Director is responsible for the development of patient care programs, policies, and procedures. The Director will participate with administration, management, medical staff, clinical leaders and frontline employees in the decision-making structures and processes. The Director will implement an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care delivered to patients. The Director is responsible for budgeting and managing supplies, equipment and personnel of the division. The Director will ensure that division staff has enough information to comply with corporate compliance program. SHIFT & SCHEDULE Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS • Demonstrates effective communication and relationship building skills (e.g., effective communication, relationship management, influence of behaviors, ability to work with diversity, shared decision making, community involvement, medical staff relationships, and academic relationships). • Demonstrates knowledge of the healthcare environment (e.g., clinical practice knowledge, patient care delivery models, work design knowledge, healthcare economics, healthcare policy, governance, evidence-based practice, outcome measurement, patient safety, utilization / case management, quality improvement, metrics, and risk management). • Employs leadership skills (e.g., foundational thinking, personal journey, uses systems thinking, succession planning and change management). • Demonstrates professionalism (e.g., personal and career accountability, career planning, ethics, practices evidence-based clinical and management, advocates for the clinical enterprise and for clinical practice, and active membership in professional associations). • Apply business skills (e.g., understanding of healthcare finances, human resource management and development, strategic management, marketing, and information management and technology). • Responsible for and possess the authority for ensuring the requirements of Quality Management System are implemented and maintained • Inspiring a shared vision for a preferred future, resulting from global analysis, in order to lead other people and the organization to this desired or preferred future. Effective communication by the leader as well as trust and confidence in leaders are the most reliable predictors of employee engagement and satisfaction in an organization. • Creating and sustaining cultures that support clinicians to do their best work. Be skilled communicators, team builders, agents for positive change, committed to service, results oriented and role models for collaborative practice. • Being visible and constantly communicating with the workforce, the reality and magnitude of change, the plan for transition and opportunities that exist for them. • Unwavering commitment to innovate and transform the work of professional nursing and the courage to move from "working within a framework" (transactional leader) to one of "working to change the framework" (transformational leader). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • Doctorate degree preferred, Graduate (Masters) Degree required. If Graduate Degree is not in nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree is required. • Professional certification in nursing or executive leadership required. • Professional certification in clinical specialty preferred. • 10 years of progressive nursing experience. Minimum of five years of progressive management experience is required. • Education and training with a focus on Cerebrovascular disease and treatment of stroke patients • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The individual must be able to: • Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits. SUPERISION REQUIREMENTS • The Director - Critical Care report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer. • Reporting directly to the Nursing Directors: Responsible for supervising other members of the healthcare team, including licensed and unlicensed staff, requiring direction, training and planning. • Collaboratively work with all organizational leaders.
