Making that catalog understandable and usable requires foundational systems that can group, tag, and reason about content at scale. Our team builds and owns those foundational capabilities: the shared understanding of "what is in the catalog" that dozens of downstream teams depend on.Role OverviewWe're seeking a Product Manager to lead our catalog understanding and tooling foundations work. As Netflix's content sources, regional availability, and licensing arrangements grow more complex, the tools and systems that let internal teams group and act on the catalog need to scale and adapt with it.Your focus will be on leading the product strategy for foundational catalog understanding and management capabilities. Working closely with internal stakeholders across Netflix, you’ll help ensure that related tools and systems work together in a coherent way, support the evolution of complex workflows that have grown over time, and incubate early AI-powered capabilities that could reshape how teams interact with the catalog. Partnering with engineering and applied science, you’ll test new approaches with real users and guide them toward broader impact.Who Will Be Successful in This RoleTo be successful in this position, you will partner with world-class teams across engineering, applied science, and a wide range of internal product customers, flexing both your analytical rigor and your ability to empathize with users who all interact with the catalog differently.The following attributes are highly valued on our team:Ability to develop a long-term vision for foundational cataloging capabilities while executing on immediate, concrete priorities.Comfort with complex systems and data models, and understanding how they interact to create scalable solutions.Skill in gathering requirements across many teams with different (sometimes conflicting) needs, and synthesizing them into a coherent roadmap.Excellence in using data to inform product decisions, balancing technical constraints against business goals.Ability to synthesize the complex into the simple and persuasive, and tell compelling stories with data.Judgment to know when to modernize and simplify an existing system versus building something new.Comfort defining and running early-stage rollouts with real users, including setting success criteria and adjusting based on feedback.Good balance between being collaborative and open to alternative views vs. decisive and clear in communicating a vision for the team.An eagerness to seek feedback and improve.Skills and Experience7+ years of product management experience, with a track record of owning complex, foundational, or platform-level products used by internal or B2B customers.Experience building products on top of taxonomies, ontologies, or structured data models, and defining principles for what belongs in structured vs. unstructured systems.Demonstrated success modernizing or simplifying a legacy system that had grown in scope without a clear design vision.Proven ability to define, launch, and measure early-stage (MVP) rollouts of new capabilities with internal stakeholder teams.Demonstrated leadership working effectively with engineers, applied scientists, and cross-functional stakeholders across many teams.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present technical, ambiguous problems clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Experience with AI/ML-powered products is a plus.Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $310,000.00 - $545,000.00.Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
