Respiratory Therapist II

The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and experience. The RT II evaluates and treats patients in complex situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management. Significant independent decision-making and self-direction are required. The RT II is responsible for educating patients and their families/support systems. Coordination of activities, staff development, and professional self-development activities are also part of the role. Patient care is delivered with an understanding of population-specific needs. The RT II addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and education needs for patients and families. Engagement in the education of new employees and others is expected. Essential functions include providing customer service through patient care, documentation, and education. The RT II collaborates with healthcare team members to plan and deliver patient care. Verifying orders and administering necessary therapies such as aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, and oxygen therapy is required. Management of ventilators, airway management, and arterial blood gas sampling and analysis are included in the duties. Promoting patient safety and participating in performance improvement initiatives are integral to the position. The RT II ensures accurate electronic orders, charting, and compliance with quality care standards. Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
