Coordinator, CommunicationsThe Communications Coordinator supports the Marketing and Communications team by assisting in content development across DAN's communications channels. Reporting directly to the Manager, Communications and Marketing, this role focuses primarily on content development and social media support, helping to amplify the organization's mission, programs, and member engagement efforts. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career communications professional who is a strong writer and storyteller, detail-oriented, and eager to learn about dive safety while growing in a mission-driven environment.ResponsibilitiesSupport the Manager, Communications and Marketing, in developing communications materials that advance organizational priorities, membership programs, and dive safety initiatives.Draft and edit short- and long-form written content, including blog articles, email newsletters, website copy, podcast episode descriptions, paid media/advertisements, and other materials as assigned.Assist with proofreading and quality assurance across communications materials, helping ensure alignment with brand voice, editorial standards, and style guidelines.Conduct basic research and fact-checking and collaborate with internal subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and clarity.Assist in day-to-day social media publishing across platforms. (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube)Monitor social media engagement and escalate responses as needed.Track basic social media performance metrics and contribute insights to support ongoing optimization.Contribute to social media content ideation and creation, including capturing photos and producing short-video content related to dive safety and DAN events (photography/videography experience not required)Help coordinate content review and approval workflows, including tracking revisions and maintaining organized documentation.Assist in maintaining content calendars and timelines as directed.Participate in team meetings and support planning discussions, including notetaking and documentation as needed.Support other communications and administrative tasks as assigned by the Manager, Communications and Marketing.Qualifications (Required)Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field1 to 3 years of experience (internships or entry-level roles included) in communications, marketing, or digital content creationStrong written communication and storytelling ability across short- and long-form contentEditing and proofreading skills with attention to detail, quality, and accuracyFamiliarity with social media platforms and basic content best practicesOrganizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlinesProactive mindset with a willingness to learn and incorporate feedbackWillingness to complete the Open Water Diver eLearning course (paid for by DAN) within two months of start date; no physical diving requiredPreferred Qualifications (Not Required, but a Plus)Experience working within nonprofit, membership-based, scientific, or education-focused organizationsExperience in scuba diving and/or water safetyFamiliarity with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or basic design/editing toolsExperience with photography and/or videographyKnowledge of AP Stylebook and newswriting standardsPhysical DemandsFrequent typing/keyboarding (50-60% of time) and constant sitting (60-75% of time)Lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, bending/squatting and standing/walking as necessaryCompensationDepending on experienceThe world's most recognized and respected dive safety organization, Divers Alert Network (DAN) has remained committed to the safety and well-being of divers for over 45 years.
