About the Role:
Sierra Animal Wellness Center is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Colfax, CA! Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, procedures, and surgeries
- Restrain and handle animals safely and humanely during treatments and diagnostics
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary clinical environment
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the supervising veterinarian
- Collect and process laboratory samples including blood draws, urinalysis, and fecal tests
- Monitor and care for hospitalized patients, documenting vitals and behavioral changes
- Communicate with pet owners regarding post-care instructions and appointment follow-ups
- Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and veterinary equipment
Requirements:
- Prior experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or related animal care setting preferred
- Comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other small animals of varying temperaments
- Strong communication skills and a client-friendly, empathetic demeanor
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively
- Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology, medications, and clinical procedures is a plus
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player with a positive attitude
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
