Backend EngineerLocation: San Francisco, CA (On-site) Employment Type: Full-time Compensation: $160,000 – $220,000 base + equity (0.1%–0.3%)Position Overview: An innovative, AI-driven technology organization is seeking a Backend Engineer to help build the next generation of real-time, intelligent user research platforms. This role focuses on developing scalable backend systems that support advanced voice-to-voice interactions, real-time data streaming, and AI-powered insights.The ideal candidate is highly technical, thrives in fast-paced environments, and is comfortable owning projects end-to-end—from concept through production deployment. This is a high-impact opportunity to work closely with executive leadership and directly influence product and technical strategy.Key Responsibilities:Collaborate closely with executive leadership on technical strategy and product directionDesign, develop, and optimize backend services, APIs, and data processing systemsBuild and maintain real-time data streaming infrastructureContribute to the development and improvement of in-house AI/LLM-based systemsLead engineering projects from initial concept through deployment and scalingEnsure system performance, scalability, and reliability in production environmentsEngage with users to gather feedback and continuously improve product functionalityRequired Qualifications:3–10 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend systemsProven experience building and maintaining production-grade applicationsStrong proficiency in backend development using Python and frameworks such as DjangoExperience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)Hands-on experience with AWS or similar cloud platformsDemonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and deliver end-to-end solutionsComfortable working in ambiguous, fast-moving environmentsPreferred Qualifications:Experience with real-time data streaming or distributed systemsFamiliarity with WebRTC or real-time communication technologiesExposure to AI/ML infrastructure or Large Language Models (LLMs)Prior experience in startup or high-growth environmentsWork Environment:On-site role with an expectation of approximately 80–100% in-office ????Flexibility available for commuting considerationsAdditional Information:Equity participation includedVisa sponsorship is not available for this role
