Shenandoah University is a private institution in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with a student enrollment of ~4,500 students (graduate and undergraduate), the majority of which reside on campus or in the Winchester, Virginia area. We have average class sizes between 15 and 20 students and favor direct contact and interaction between faculty and students. Shenandoah University’s Office of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Criminal Justice. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia. Shenandoah University invites applications for a full-time, career-contract faculty position in the Criminal Justice program in our Department of Social and Criminal Justice. We seek a skilled educator with an interest in developing a community- based approach to studying criminal and social justice. In- person teaching responsibilities will include introductory and criminology courses, white-collar and state crime, as well as additional courses within the successful applicant’s area of specialization. We are especially interested in a candidate who focuses on intersectionality and/or immigration law. The successful applicant will also have experience with and/or scholarly expertise on the effects of changing demographic, social and economic conditions on the criminal justice system in the United States. This area is of special concern to our program given our growing regional focus and the contributions of an increasingly diversified population to growth and development of our regional economy and social system in the last decade. In addition to undergraduate instruction and university service, the successful applicant must be able to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to integrate experiential learning and community engagement into course curriculum and program design. This obligation aligns with our university mission to create lifelong learners and engaged citizens as well as our program interests in empowering students to take a proactive approach to addressing both social and criminal justice issues. Required Skills The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Criminal Justice or Criminology. ABDs will also be considered but must have a doctorate before appointment. Experience teaching in the face-to-face classroom mode is required. Experience in program development, experiential learning, and/or collaborating with criminal justice professionals and scholars is preferred.
