Patient Access Coordinator

Job Title: Patient Access CoordinatorThe Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for oversight of revenue cycle activities related to patient registration, referrals, precertification/pre-authorization, insurance verification, co-pay collections, customer service functions and training pertaining to front end operations to ensure financial goals are met. Completes and evaluates Patient Access functions and creates the first impression of UMC's services to patients and families and other external customers. Articulates information in a manner that patients, guarantors and family members understand so they know what to expect and understand their financial responsibilities.Essential Functions:Maintain and oversee planning and coordination of all patient registration functions to ensure effective cash flow through patient registrations, insurance verifications, pre-authorizations, collections and referrals to eligibility and outreach enrollment specialists.Develops, establishes, implements, and evaluates systems to monitor accuracy and timeliness of registrations.Develops, monitors and trends Key Performance Indicators for Patient Access and reports findings to the senior management.Facilitate communication between departments and PA management regarding issues of front end operations.Monitors service volume, referral activities and timeliness and plans staff accordingly.Assist in develop and implementation of goals and objectives for front end operations that support the mission of University Medical Center and communicate goals to staff.Develop resource materials and guides to be used by staff.Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures of University Medical Center, the employees, regulatory agencies and third-party payers.Leads and directs the work of others. Trains, motivates and coaches staff.Monitor QA results and identifies training opportunities or other solutions to address needs.Establishes a positive impression and maintains good customer service with patient, families, medical staff, physicians and other employees of the organization.Fill in for other Patient Access team members during lunch or absences as needed.Participates in the on-call weekend coverage rotation.Assist with projects as directed by Senior Management.Attend Department and Team meetings as required.Monitors staff to ensure they are portraying excellent customer service.Performs other duties as assigned.Contributes to the accomplishment of department and hospital objectives.Projects a positive personal and professional image of the Patient Access Representative, department, and hospital at all times, under all circumstances.Shift Requirements:Overtime Required: Infrequently Sometimes Often n/a (exempt position)Other Functions:Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conductComplies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all timesPerforms other duties as assignedEducation:High School Diploma or equivalent (required)Experience:Two years of relevant patient access experience (required)Job Competency:Must be dependable, professional and a team playerCritical thinking skillsSolid oral and written communication skillsAbility to multi-task and be flexible with job demandsEnergetic, motivated individual that connects well with peopleAbility to work in a high pressure or changing environment, and exercise good judgment to resolve problems in the absence of formalized procedures and guidelines.Additional Responsibilities:Demonstrates a commitment to service, organization values and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all timesMaintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all timesAdheres to organizational and department specific safety standards and guidelinesWorks collaboratively and supports efforts of team membersDemonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care community
