DIRECTOR OF SAFETY

Location: Newark, DE 

Sobieski Enterprise in Newark, DE is seeking a full-time Director of Safety. This senior leadership position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs across the organization to ensure a secure working environment for all employees and stakeholders. This role involves strategic planning to align safety initiatives with organizational goals, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices. The Director of Safety leads risk assessment efforts, incident investigations, and continuous improvement processes to minimize workplace hazards and promote a culture of safety awareness. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and external agencies is essential to maintain up-to-date safety standards and respond effectively to emerging safety challenges. Ultimately, this position drives the organization's commitment to health and safety excellence, reducing incidents and fostering a proactive safety culture throughout all operations.

SKILLS

The Director of Safety utilizes their expertise in regulatory compliance and risk management daily to develop and enforce safety policies that protect employees and assets. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for training staff, leading cross-departmental safety initiatives, and fostering a culture of safety awareness. Analytical skills are applied when conducting thorough incident investigations and interpreting safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement. The ability to collaborate effectively with regulatory bodies and internal teams ensures that the organization remains compliant and proactive in addressing safety challenges. Additionally, project management skills support the coordination of safety programs and continuous improvement efforts across multiple sites or departments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Strongly prefer 3-5 years of safety management experience in a construction environment.

• Fundamental knowledge of OSHA requirements for construction

• Must possess a valid Driver's license

• Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering or similar relevant degree.

• Prefer candidate with recognized safety certifications.

• Must have a broad-based and diverse background in construction safety regulation.

• Ability to provide leadership in dealing with some of the challenges of safety management.
