Childcare Aide

The primary function of the Childcare Aide is to assist the Childcare Director and other staff in the center with the care of children before, during, and after the school day and during summer recess. Duties include classroom observation and interaction, assisting with the preparation and cleanup of classroom materials, assistance with toileting, feeding and other general health needs. This list is representative, not exhaustive.

Qualifications: MUST be at least 18 years old or older. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, get up and down off of the floor frequently, move quickly when needed and assist with walks through campus. All staff shall be of responsible character and suitable to meet the needs of children. A criminal history check using ICHAT, or equivalent, for a person's state of official residence, shall be completed before making an offer of employment to that person. Cannot be convicted of any of the following: a listed offense, as defined in section 2 of the sex offender registration act, child abuse or neglect, a felony involving harm or threatened harm to an individual within 10 year of hire date. A written statement shall be signed and dated by staff and volunteers at the time of hire indicating the following information: (a) The individual is aware that abuse and neglect of children is against the law; (b) The individual has been informed of the center's policies on child abuse and neglect; (c) The individual knows that all staff and volunteers are required by law to immediately report suspected abuse and neglect to children's protective services.

A positive attitude and willingness to work with a team are essential to continuing our record of excellence. MUST have experience working with children in a group setting. Must be available for training. Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences. Have an awareness of the unique needs of children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities. Have dependable transportation. Appearance, grooming and personality that establish a positive example for students. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general education periodicals, professional journals, teaching procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write business correspondence and syllabi. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, students, parents, and the general public. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve routine problems with minimal supervisory assistance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, with staff and with the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness and consistency to the mission and goals established by the Board of Education.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with and be flexible in accommodating scheduled activities/events during their shift.

Report to/Evaluated by: The Childcare Aide is under the immediate supervision of the site Director. Supervisory Responsibility: All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times. Salary Range: $15.75/hour-part time

Essential Duties Observe and monitor children's play activities. Keep records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered. Instruct children in health and personal habits such as eating, resting, and toilet habits. Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs. Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games. Assist in preparing food for children and serve meals and refreshments to children and regulate rest periods. Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas. Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. Sanitize toys and play equipment. Discipline children and recommend or initiate other measures to control behavior, such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys and books. Other duties as assigned by the Childcare Director, Building Principal, and/or Superintendent. Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service. Assist the Director in implementing curriculum and planning daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children. Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times. Must be self-directed and have the ability to follow directives from supervisors. Must maintain confidentiality at all times. Regular, in-person attendance and punctuality are expectations of this position.
