Vice President, Underwriting - Financial Lines (Miami Beach)

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Vice President, Financial Lines to help lead and grow Relm’s Financial Lines portfolio.

This is a senior underwriting role combining portfolio ownership, hands-on underwriting, broker development and team leadership. You will be responsible for shaping underwriting strategy across Financial Lines, managing complex and high-value risks, and driving profitable growth across products including D&O, Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions, Crime and related specialty lines .

You will work closely with senior leadership, distribution partners and the wider underwriting team to identify new opportunities, strengthen broker relationships and continue developing Relm’s Financial Lines proposition across emerging and evolving industries.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the underwriting strategy, planning and performance of the Financial Lines portfolio, with responsibility for growth, profitability, retention and portfolio management.
• Underwrite, price and negotiate complex Financial Lines risks in line with Relm’s underwriting appetite and commercial objectives.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail brokers, identifying new distribution opportunities and supporting new business development.
• Lead and support the underwriting team, providing technical guidance, mentorship and development to junior underwriters and underwriting support colleagues.
• Negotiate and draft policy and endorsement wording, ensuring coverage remains commercially competitive and technically robust.
• Work closely with senior leadership on portfolio strategy, distribution, reinsurance and product development.
• Use portfolio data and management information to identify trends, monitor performance and support underwriting decisions.
• Identify opportunities to expand Relm’s Financial Lines offering across emerging industries and evolving exposures.
• Drive cross-sell opportunities across Relm’s wider product portfolio.
• Represent Relm at broker meetings, market events, conferences and industry forums.
• Support the continued development of underwriting processes, systems and technology to improve efficiency and decision-making.
• Ensure underwriting standards, file quality and regulatory requirements are consistently maintained across the portfolio.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years’ underwriting and/or broking experience within Financial Lines.
• Strong technical experience across areas such as D&O, Financial Institutions, Professional Indemnity, Crime and/or related Financial Lines products .
• A proven track record of underwriting complex risks and managing a profitable portfolio.
• Strong relationships across the wholesale and/or retail broker market.
• Experience negotiating and drafting policy wording and endorsements.
• Previous leadership or management experience, with the ability to develop and mentor underwriting talent.
• Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to make decisions on complex or unusual risks.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with brokers, clients and senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills and confidence working with underwriting data and portfolio management information.
• A relevant insurance qualification such as CPCU, ACII, RPLU, AU or equivalent is preferred.
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience underwriting businesses operating in emerging or rapidly evolving sectors.
• Exposure to industries such as digital assets, Web3, technology, AI, cannabis or other emerging markets.
• Experience managing international portfolios or multi-jurisdictional Financial Lines risks.
• Experience supporting product development or building new Financial Lines propositions.
