RN First Assistant

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) supports the surgical team by assisting the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other technical tasks during surgery. This role ensures patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes by preparing sterile supplies, positioning patients, and utilizing appropriate surgical techniques and equipment under the surgeon's supervision and hospital policies. Responsibilities:

• Prepare and organize sterile supplies, instruments, equipment, and drapes for surgical procedures.
• Position patients safely for surgical procedures.
• Assist with visualization and hemostasis during surgery using appropriate techniques.
• Assist with closure of body planes and apply appropriate wound dressings.
• Insert and secure drainage systems to tissue as needed.
• Utilize surgical equipment and supplies safely, including pneumatic tourniquets, electrocautery, and endoscopy equipment.
• Perform other duties as requested by surgical team or management.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant (RNFA) program or equivalent first-assisting education.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• One or more years of related operating room or surgical experience preferred.

Special Considerations:

• Work performed in a surgical environment requiring strict adherence to sterile technique and patient safety protocols.
• Must comply with hospital policies and surgeon directives during procedures.

Scheduling:

• Day shift, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
