About the Position: This position is located at Kenner Army Medical Health Clinic in Fort Lee, VA in the Directorate of Dental. Serves as an oral surgeon providing advanced surgical care for complex oral and facial conditions, managing challenging patient cases, performing reconstructive and implant procedures, and guiding junior clinicians in specialized practices.

Duties

Help

  • Diagnose oral and facial conditions to determine needed surgical treatment.
  • Perform tooth extractions to resolve complex dentoalveolar problems.
  • Repair facial injuries to restore functional and cosmetic structures.
  • Remove jaw tumors and cysts to prevent further disease.
  • Place dental and facial implants to support restorative devices.
  • Manage challenging patient cases to ensure safe and effective care.
  • Order diagnostic tests to support accurate evaluation.
  • Mentor dental staff and residents to build clinical skills.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Tier 1: This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Employee must possess and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dentist (Oral Surgery):

Education: Applicants must possess Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the

American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint

Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the

District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Residency: Applicants must have successfully completed an advanced specialty postgraduate residency program approved by the American

Dental Association (ADA), or accepted equivalent program, in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements

listed below:

Completion of a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or at least three years

professional dentistry experience, or training, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-12). Experience is defined as: performing oral

surgical care including skills such as, but not limited to, diagnosing and performing surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving

both the functional and esthetic aspects of the head, mouth, teeth, gums, jaws and neck.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
