Patient Access Rep - Per Diem

Per Diem Patient Access Rep for Outpatient and Emergency departments. Commitment is 4 shifts per month, one of which should be on a weekend; one shift during summer and one during winter holiday. Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities Registration Registers patients presenting for visits and explains the registration process to patients. Processes patient co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and balances due, safeguards cash, checks and receipts, and reconciles the cash drawer at the end of each business day. Assists patients with kiosk check-in as needed. Completes the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire for each patient and adjusts patient coverage based on results. Obtains signatures on consent forms, financial forms, and other required documents; distributes and scans these documents during the registration encounter. Counsels patients regarding non-covered services and obtains signatures on Advance Notice Beneficiaries (ABNs), consents, and waivers. Monitors the patient waiting area to ensure a smooth, efficient registration flow, advising patients of potential delays and taking steps to maintain a pleasant experience. Responds to patient concerns and potential safety issues, recognizing health conditions that pose a risk to others and following established procedures. Maintains a neat, orderly registration desk and patient waiting area, securing all confidential patient information. Scheduling Prioritizes and accesses various patient scheduling sources, including phone calls, digital messaging, orders, and scheduled work queues. Schedules, reschedules, and cancels patient appointments using online questionnaires, offline materials, and subgroup searches. Builds working relationships with staff of assigned clinical departments and applies unique scheduling protocols. Ensures all required key information—referring physician, insurance coverage, demographics, contact details—is captured and verified. Identifies and communicates any management issues that may impact appointment timeliness and accuracy of patient care. Follows confidentiality, equipment security, and safeguarding guidelines while maintaining productivity, quality, and accuracy. Pre-Registration: Efficiently registers patients, verifies all required information, and ensures proper reimbursement on initial claim submission. Handles guarantor assignment and insurance verification, including real-time eligibility checks. Applies the appropriate guarantor and insurance to each patient visit and communicates financial clearance status to patients. Coordinates with Financial Counseling for patients with contract, self-pay, or payment responsibility needs. Minimum Qualifications Education: High school degree or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred. Licensure, Certification & Registration: None required. Experience: 1–3 years of related work experience; experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office. Skills: Must work successfully in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with independent decision-making; accurate and efficient processing of electronic data. Preferred Qualifications & Skills Call center and/or telephone customer service experience. Strong typing skills (40+ wpm) and knowledge of medical terminology. Bilingual written and verbal communication skills. Experience with EHR software. Pay Range $20.50 – $27.59 per hour. The base hourly range depends on position responsibilities, with potential for additional pay through shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other lawful practices.
