Employment Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Experience Required: 2 years of related work experience Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma/GED Direct Supervisor: Landfill Superintendent Primary Work Location: Office setting Physical requirements: This is operative work requiring the exertion of up to and exceeding 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Certifications: Virginia Solid Waste Management Class II License, Part 107 Drone License, and Responsible Land Disturber Certificate, or the ability to obtain certifications within one year of employment. Job Summary : Provides support and assistance to the Landfill Superintendent in the day-to-day operation of the Landfill. Operation of heavy equipment; supervision of Landfill equipment operators and upkeep of Landfill equipment in absence of the Landfill Superintendent. Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties: Assign work for the Landfill crew by scheduling necessary duties when required Serve the landfill customers by determining what refuse is acceptable within county guidelines and giving directions as to where it should be taken in the Landfill to be processed Make sure that duties are performed correctly by the Landfill crew by making sure that refuse has been properly compacted, spread and covered Bury refuse by using various pieces of heavy equipment when required Make sure enough fill dirt is constantly stockpiled when required Assist with heavy equipment operator as needed Assist in planning for long-term site capacity, expansion and closure activities Ensure compliance with operational permits, federal, state, and local regulations Assist in utilizing a GPS rover, earthwork software, and a drone to mark GPS coordinates, manage data, and evaluate compaction. Does other related tasks as necessary Knowledge Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes assessment of customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources Basic understanding of leachate and gas management Skills Good interpersonal skills Mechanical aptitude Abilities Operate and maintain heavy equipment Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense Ability to obtain part 107 license within 1-year of employment Ability to obtain Solid Waste Management Class II License within 1-year of employment Ability to obtain Responsible Land Disturber Certificate within 1-year of employment Regular work attendance is required Rockingham County is an Equal Opportunity Employer #J-18808-Ljbffr Rockingham County
